Pakistan Seeks Neutral Venue for Asian Champions Trophy

ISLAMABAD: (Sports Desk) – Pakistan has asked the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) to shift its matches at the Men’s Asian Champions Trophy 2026 to a neutral venue, citing security concerns and the sensitive situation between Pakistan and India.

Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Ad Hoc President Mohiuddin Ahmed Wani said the federation had formally requested the AHF to either relocate the entire tournament or move all of Pakistan’s matches to a neutral venue.

Wani said the request was aimed at ensuring a safe, dignified and suitable environment for Pakistani players and officials. He stressed that Pakistan remained committed to participating in the Asian Champions Trophy and international hockey.

The PHF president also said Pakistan was ready to compete against India and all other International Hockey Federation (FIH) member countries on the field. He added that the federation remained committed to keeping sports separate from politics.

Wani expressed hope that the AHF would consider Pakistan’s request and arrange a neutral venue for its matches, allowing the national team to participate fully in the tournament.

The Men’s Asian Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in India from October 27 to November 5. The six-team tournament features Pakistan, India, China, Japan, Malaysia and South Korea, with league-stage matches scheduled in Jalandhar and the latter stages in Mohali.

Pakistan’s request comes shortly after the tournament schedule was announced, with the India-Pakistan match originally scheduled for November 1 in Jalandhar.
