Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to UN Peacekeeping at International Day Ceremony Honoring Fallen Peacekeepers
UN – (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad UN peacekeepers tribute came on June 5, 2026, when he represented the country at a solemn ceremony held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The event marked the International Day of UN Peacekeepers.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres led the ceremony. He presented the prestigious Dag Hammarskjöld Medal to 68 fallen peacekeepers who lost their lives in active service. The Captain Mbaye Diagne Medal for Exceptional Courage was also awarded at the event.
A minute of silence was observed to honor all peacekeepers who made the ultimate sacrifice for global peace and security.
Pakistan has been contributing to UN peacekeeping for more than six decades. Over 237,000 Pakistani peacekeepers have served in 48 UN missions across the world. This places Pakistan among the top troop-contributing nations at the United Nations.
Sadly, 183 Pakistani peacekeepers have laid down their lives while serving under the UN flag. Their sacrifice remains a source of national pride and deep respect.
Pakistan reaffirmed its full commitment to the United Nations mission of maintaining international peace and security. The country continues to stand with the global community in protecting civilians and restoring stability in conflict zones.
