Syeda Amna Batool Joins FIFA Institutional Reforms Committee

Pakistan Strengthens Football Federation with PM, FIFA Praise, Reforms

Islamabad/Doha (News Desk) – Pakistan has achieved a major milestone in international sports diplomacy as Member of the National Assembly Syeda Amna Batool has been appointed to FIFA’s Institutional Reforms Committee. She is currently the only Pakistani representative serving on any FIFA committee and has already taken part in the committee’s plenary session and related meetings held in Qatar.

The appointment reflects renewed confidence by FIFA in Pakistan’s institutional progress and its commitment to transparent and effective football governance. It also highlights Pakistan’s growing engagement with global football bodies after years of administrative challenges and international scrutiny.

The development comes amid sustained efforts by the government under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to revive football in the country. The prime minister’s recent meeting with AFC President and FIFA Senior Vice President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa reinforced Pakistan’s pledge to maintain an autonomous football federation, promote grassroots development, and host international football events. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has also publicly acknowledged Pakistan’s improving commitment to the sport.

Officials say the current administration has moved away from past practices that led to dysfunction and sanctions against the Pakistan Football Federation, instead embracing FIFA’s principles of inclusion, transparency, and merit. Over the past six months, PFF President Syed Mohsin Gillani has also played a key role in rebuilding the federation’s credibility through engagement at both domestic and international levels.

The government views football as a strategic tool for youth engagement, social cohesion, and national development, particularly as more than 60 percent of Pakistan’s population is under 30. Recent reforms include structured collaboration with FIFA, gender-inclusive sports governance, and historic steps such as appointing the first female manager for the men’s national team.

Within FIFA, Syeda Amna Batool is expected to contribute to strengthening reform frameworks and ensuring effective implementation, positioning Pakistan as a responsible and constructive member of the global football community.
