Study Links E-Cigarettes To Increased Cancer Risks

Vaping May Raise Lung And Mouth Cancer Risk

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – A new Australian medical study has raised concerns over the potential health risks linked to e-cigarette use, suggesting that vaping may increase the chances of developing lung and oral cancers.

The findings challenge the common perception among many users that e-cigarettes are a safer alternative to traditional smoking. Researchers said nicotine and other chemicals found in vaping products may contribute to long-term health risks.

The study, conducted by University of New South Wales, analyzed existing research on the effects of e-cigarettes and reviewed a broad range of scientific studies examining their connection with cancer risks.

Researchers concluded that vaping could make users more vulnerable to developing lung and mouth cancer, describing the review as one of the most detailed assessments of the issue so far.

The study authors said the findings challenge the idea that e-cigarettes carry no cancer-related risks. However, they noted that additional clinical studies involving human participants are still required to further confirm the results.

According to the research, available evidence indicates that e-cigarette use may potentially increase lung cancer risk by up to four times, although researchers emphasized the need for continued investigation.

The study also addressed the argument that vaping can help smokers quit conventional cigarettes, stating that current evidence does not prove e-cigarettes are completely risk-free.

The findings have been published in the journal Carcinogenesis, adding to the ongoing international discussion about the long-term health effects of vaping products.
