ISLAMABAD: (Showbiz Desk) – Renowned Pakistani actor Nauman Ijaz has spoken publicly about his cancer diagnosis and recovery, sharing how prayer and the daily recitation of Surah Rehman became an important part of his personal journey.
During a recent podcast appearance, the veteran actor revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer in June 2024. He said doctors discovered a tumour near his ear as well as lymphoma in his stomach.
Reflecting on the moment he received the diagnosis, Nauman said he immediately turned to prayer and asked Allah for mercy.
The actor explained that he had always tried to avoid hurting others and hoped that Allah would show him compassion during the difficult period.
Nauman Ijaz Worried About His Family
Naumaan said the prospect of repeated hospital visits, chemotherapy and the challenges associated with cancer treatment caused him considerable concern, particularly because of the potential impact on his family.
He recalled praying that if his purpose in life had already been fulfilled, Allah should take him peacefully rather than leave his loved ones to endure the suffering associated with a prolonged illness.
The actor also revealed that his fears became particularly intense at night. He began reciting different verses and prayers before going to sleep because he was worried he might not wake up the next morning.
Surah Rehman Became Part of His Daily Routine
According to Nauman, his friend Gohar Butt encouraged him to begin reciting Surah Rehman following his diagnosis.
The actor said he has continued the practice every day since then and considers the recitation an important part of his recovery experience.
Nauman expressed his personal belief that Surah Rehman played a significant role in helping him through the illness.
He said the tumour near his ear was removed through surgery, while subsequent medical scans no longer showed the lymphoma in his stomach.
Doctors had initially planned to start chemotherapy in July, making the later scan results particularly unexpected for the actor.
Nauman credited Allah for the positive development and expressed gratitude for what he described as divine kindness during his recovery.

Nauman Ijaz is among Pakistan’s most respected television actors, with a career spanning several decades and numerous acclaimed drama serials.
His well-known projects include Dasht, Najat, Bhai, Dum Pukht, Mann-o-Salwa, Kaisi Teri Khudgarzi, Parizaad, Bashar Momin, Dank and Bismil.
The actor continues to work in television and is currently associated with upcoming drama projects, including a serial featuring actor Nadia Afghan.
