Student Card Approved for Free Transport and Scholarships

Officials have not yet announced a launch date, but work on the project is said to be well underway.

LAHORE: To empower youth and improve access to education, the Punjab government has announced plans to roll out a new “Student Card” for all students enrolled in public and private educational institutions across the province.

The initiative, currently being developed under the Punjab Education Department, aims to provide wide-ranging benefits. One of the most notable features is free travel on public transport for all cardholders — a step expected to ease daily commuting challenges, especially for students from rural or low-income backgrounds.

Beyond transport access, the Student Card will also act as a digital academic profile, storing each student’s academic records, extracurricular achievements, and other relevant data. Officials say this database will assist in academic planning and help students with future career development.

Additionally, the card will become the central gateway for national and international scholarships, allowing easier access to funding and educational opportunities. The Education Department also plans to partner with companies offering services such as career guidance and digital learning tools, further broadening the card’s utility.

A centralized database will be created using the information collected through the Student Cards, which the government believes will improve educational planning and resource distribution across Punjab.

Officials have not yet announced a launch date, but work on the project is said to be well underway.
