Sothassi Motorcycle Pakistan: Local Startup Uses CKD Assembly to Undercut Imported Bikes

Pakistan – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Sothassi motorcycle Pakistan is turning heads in the local bike industry, and for good reason. This young startup is making premium motorcycles affordable for everyday riders. Founded in 2021, the company is proving that big bikes don’t have to come with a big price tag.

The man behind this idea is Shamoon Qurashi. He’s an engineer with a passion for motorcycles that goes back to his childhood. Years later, that passion turned into a real business plan.

Qurashi studied mechanical engineering at Imperial College London. After finishing his studies, he did something bold. He rode a Yamaha XT600 all the way from London to Cape Town. That’s a journey through 33 countries across Europe and Africa.

His engineering skills didn’t stop there. He later worked in Britain on a rotary-powered superbike called the CR700W. This bike was built with well-known engineer Brian Crighton. It went on to break the world speed record for rotary-powered motorcycles. Famous racer Guy Martin even rode the first prototype.

While working in Britain, Qurashi started paying close attention to Pakistan’s motorcycle market. He noticed something big was missing. Pakistan had plenty of small 125cc bikes, but nothing bigger for serious riders. That gap gave him an idea worth chasing.

This is where Sothassi CKD assembly comes into play. CKD stands for Completely Knocked Down. Instead of importing fully built bikes, Sothassi brings in bike parts and assembles them locally. This simple shift helps the company skip heavy import taxes.

The result is a huge price drop for buyers. Qurashi says this method lets Sothassi sell its 400cc motorcycle for around 60 percent less than fully imported models. That’s a massive saving for bike lovers in Pakistan.

Right now, the 400cc bike costs about Rs845,000, which is close to $3,040. For many riders, that price feels like a dream come true. Bigger bikes usually cost far more when imported directly.

Local assembly doesn’t just lower the price tag. It also solves another big headache for owners. Spare parts and servicing have always been tough for premium bike owners in Pakistan. With local production, getting parts and repairs becomes much easier.

Motorcycle fan Shahzeb Javed shared his thoughts on this shift. He said the price under Rs1 million first caught his attention. But he also pointed out that spare parts availability matters just as much.

He explained that imported bike owners often face long waits for parts. Finding a proper dealership for repairs can be another struggle. Sothassi seems to be solving both problems at once.

The response so far has been strong. Around 900 people signed up for test rides in July alone. That kind of demand shows real excitement building around the brand.

Sothassi isn’t stopping at 400cc bikes either. The company plans to roll out models up to 1,200cc in the future. Their long-term goal goes even further than that.

Qurashi wants Sothassi to eventually design and manufacture motorcycles fully in Pakistan. The dream is to export locally made bikes to other countries someday. It’s an ambitious goal, but the early momentum looks promising.

For now, riders across Pakistan finally have a local option worth watching. Sothassi is proving that quality bikes and fair prices can go hand in hand.
