Shibli Faraz Resigns from Judicial Commission on PTI’s Instructions

Faraz’s resignation marks a significant development in the political landscape, with PTI distancing itself from the Judicial Commission's proceedings.

ISLAMABAD: Senate Opposition Leader and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Shibli Faraz has resigned from the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, following instructions from PTI’s founder and Chairman, Imran Khan. Faraz’s resignation comes in the wake of a similar step taken by PTI leader Omar Ayub, the opposition leader in the National Assembly, who also stepped down from the commission.

In his resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of the Senate, Faraz cited the numerous legal challenges he is currently facing, including the 32 First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against him and ongoing court hearings. He stated that these circumstances have made it difficult for him to effectively serve on the commission. Faraz’s resignation marks a significant development in the political landscape, with PTI distancing itself from the Judicial Commission’s proceedings.

Following Faraz’s departure, Senator Ali Zafar is set to take over his position as the representative of PTI on the commission. Sources have revealed that PTI Chairman Imran Khan had approved the resignations of both Shibli Faraz and Omar Ayub two days earlier and directed the nominations of Barrister Gohar and Senator Ali Zafar as their replacements.

In October 2024, PTI had made the decision to formally join the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, agreeing to nominate members from both houses of Parliament. However, with these resignations, it remains to be seen how the party’s role in the commission will evolve.
