Shehbaz Sharif Pezeshkian Meeting: PM Stresses Islamabad MoU for Peace

Pakistan & Iran – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a warm meeting with Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday. The Shehbaz Sharif Pezeshkian meeting took place in Bishkek, on the sidelines of the SCO Council of Heads of State summit. The two leaders talked about ways to build lasting peace in the region.

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz spoke about the Islamabad memorandum of understanding. He said this agreement remains the best route toward long-term peace and calm in the region. He also stressed that patience and steady diplomacy are key to reaching real results.

This memorandum, often called the Islamabad MoU, was signed on June 18. It came after the US and Iran reached a 14-point interim deal aimed at ending fighting in the Middle East. Since then, many leaders have pointed to it as a hopeful sign for the region.

The meeting between the two leaders was friendly and full of goodwill. Both sides talked about their long history of close ties. They agreed to work harder on strengthening cooperation in every possible area. This builds on plans made during President Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan back in June this year.

The two sides also looked at ways to improve regional links and boost contact between their people. Officials from the Prime Minister’s Office shared these details in a statement issued after the meeting.

Both leaders also shared their thoughts on how the region’s situation keeps changing. PM Shehbaz noted that Pakistan will keep working sincerely toward peace in the area. He also pointed to the recent trip made by Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to Tehran. According to the PM, this visit and the talks that followed were a positive step forward.

President Pezeshkian, in turn, praised Pakistan’s steady efforts to support peace and safety in the region. He also spoke about the deep bond between Pakistan and Iran. He said this friendship goes back centuries and is rooted in shared culture, faith, and history. He expressed a strong wish to grow ties between the two nations even further.

The Iranian leader also spoke about the importance of unity among Muslim nations. He said working together is vital to face today’s many challenges.

Before the meeting ended, PM Shehbaz invited President Pezeshkian to visit Pakistan soon. In return, the Iranian president invited the premier to attend the coming ECO summit set to take place in Tehran this December.

Several senior officials also joined the meeting. These included Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, SAPM Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, along with other top representatives from both sides.

This meeting shows how both countries continue to value their friendship. It also reflects their shared hope for a more peaceful and stable region in the coming months.
