Sanaullah Says, KP Emergency Review Possible If PTI Fulfils Constitutional Role
Rana Sanaullah says the government may reconsider emergency measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa if the PTI plays its constitutional role.
Pakistan – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – The KP emergency could be reconsidered if the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) plays its constitutional and legal role, according to Rana Sanaullah. He is the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs.
He shared his view on Friday during the Geo News programme “Geo Pakistan.” He said the door is still open, even at this stage.
“Even now, if the PTI fulfils its constitutional and legal role, the matter can be considered,” he said.
The federal government imposed the emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 11. President Asif Ali Zardari approved the step on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The move was made under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution.
The government says the province’s security situation has worsened. It also raised concerns about counterterrorism efforts there.
The PTI, which leads the provincial government, has rejected the decision. The party has also opposed governor’s rule in the province.
For now, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi is running the province on behalf of the federal government. He is supported by an 11-member technocratic advisory council.
Sanaullah said this temporary system would not have been needed if the PTI had done its job. In his view, the party was unwilling to meet its responsibilities.
He also spoke about the house arrest of Imran Khan’s sisters. He said the government was sorry to take that step. However, he argued it had become necessary to keep the situation under control.
According to him, the sisters had made statements that called for an attack on the Governor’s House. He said everyone knows what was said about the long march.
He also criticised what he called the PTI’s social media “mafia.” In his words, everyone has seen the kind of language it uses.
Sanaullah claimed the opposition is suffering because of its own behaviour. He then compared the two prime ministers.
“When the PTI founder was prime minister, he did not even telephone the opposition leader,” he said. He added that the current prime minister shakes hands with the opposition leader whenever he comes to the House.
The adviser also warned about terrorism. He said it could become a danger to the country’s very existence if it is not ended at once.
He said India can no longer fight Pakistan in a regular war. He added that the whole region sees Pakistan as a provider of security.
He also claimed that India has set up bases in Afghanistan and is funding terrorism. He did not offer details in the programme.
Sanaullah said the country must stand united against terrorism. In his view, the federal and provincial governments must agree on one common policy.
Maryam Nawaz hits out at PTI
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also spoke against the PTI on Friday. She was addressing an event in Sahiwal.
She said some people claimed to have raised public awareness. In her view, they ended up destroying lives instead.
She said no one removed the PTI government. According to her, the party brought down its own government.
“This is the first long march that ended with the end of its own government,” she said. She called it the first long march that had swallowed the government.
She then asked whether anyone had ever seen one province attack another province or the federal government.
Maryam also compared the two provinces. “Punjab is entering the age of artificial intelligence today, while KP is in the Stone Age,” she said.
She added that the people of KP would now learn what development really means.
The KP emergency has now added fresh heat to an already tense political scene. With strong words coming from both sides, the next move by the PTI and the federal government will be watched closely.
