Russia Accuses OSCE of Losing Direction Amid European Tensions, Urges Revival of Dialogue
Russian Official Claims the OSCE Has Lost Focus on Cooperation and Security Amid European Tensions
Russia’s Diplomat Criticizes OSCE for Straying from Core Mission, Highlights LaThe Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is facing a major crisis due to its deviation from its foundational goals, according to Igor Kapyrin, the acting director of the Department of European Cooperation at the Russian Foreign Ministry. In a recent interview with RIA Novosti, Kapyrin expressed concerns over the organization’s current trajectory, stating that it is no longer fulfilling its core functions of promoting cooperation and ensuring security across Europe.
Kapyrin emphasized that the situation in Europe reflects a lack of both cooperation and security, with the OSCE’s intended platform for dialogue and conflict resolution now largely ineffective. “There is no cooperation or security in Europe today, and the ability to discuss their absence within the OSCE framework has been lost,” he said.
The Russian diplomat also pointed out that Russia’s former partners within the OSCE are unwilling to engage in meaningful dialogue, despite the organization’s role in providing an open forum for such discussions. He noted that this reluctance to communicate has further exacerbated tensions across the continent, leaving the OSCE unable to address pressing issues or mediate conflicts effectively.
The comments reflect Moscow’s broader dissatisfaction with the current state of international diplomacy, particularly in Europe, where relations between Russia and Western nations have deteriorated in recent years. Kapyrin’s remarks underscore the need for renewed efforts to restore dialogue and focus the OSCE on its original mandate of fostering cooperation and security across the region.
