Rizwan Focused on ODI Series Against South Africa as Preparation for Champions Trophy

“We leave past failures in the past, but we learn from them,” Rizwan said.

PARAL:  Pakistan cricket team captain Mohammad Rizwan addressed the media in Parl ahead of the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against South Africa, reflecting on the team’s performance in the recent T20 series and outlining their strategy for the ODI matches.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Rizwan acknowledged that the results of the T20 series were not as expected, but emphasized the importance of learning from past setbacks. He stressed that while the focus is now on the ODI series, the team remains motivated and committed to improving.

“We leave past failures in the past, but we learn from them,” Rizwan said. “The results in the T20 series were not as expected, but we have a good rhythm in ODIs, and we will try to maintain that.”

Rizwan highlighted that the team has been experimenting with younger players in the T20 series, but the upcoming ODI series is crucial for preparation ahead of the Champions Trophy. “Our focus for the ODI series is on preparation for the Champions Trophy,” he added.

He also discussed the team’s unity, saying that every player in the squad is a leader in their own right. “In our team, every player is a captain. The word ‘I’ does not exist, it’s always ‘we’,” Rizwan said. “The team dynamic is excellent, and whether senior or junior, everyone’s focus is on the team’s success.”

Rizwan acknowledged the challenges of playing abroad, stating that conditions in different countries require adaptability. “Playing away from home is always challenging, and South Africa has gained momentum, coming off recent victories. But we too have beaten Australia in Australia and won a series in Zimbabwe. This ODI series will be a good contest,” he said.

The first ODI between Pakistan and South Africa is scheduled for tomorrow in Parl. Rizwan remains optimistic about the team’s performance, urging his players to focus on the team’s collective goal of success in the series.

It is worth noting that the third and final T20 match between Pakistan and South Africa was abandoned due to rain, resulting in a 2-0 series win for South Africa. The ODI series is now expected to provide a fresh challenge for both teams.
