Qatar LNG Explosion Kills Pakistani and Indian Workers at Barzan Gas Facility

QATAR LNG – (Web Desk) – A massive explosion at Qatar’s Ras Laffan LNG complex has left 13 people dead, with Qatar LNG explosion Pakistani Indian workers dead confirmed by Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi. The blast struck the Barzan local gas supply facility late Sunday evening.

Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy said the explosion was a technical accident, not an act of sabotage or a hostile attack. He said authorities have launched a full investigation into the cause of the blast.

The minister confirmed the deaths of 13 workers of Pakistani and Indian nationalities. He also said 66 people were injured in the incident, none of whom are in a life-threatening condition. The injured workers hold nationalities from several countries including Bangladesh, Kenya, Nepal, Ghana, Tanzania, and Nigeria.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi confirmed that the Pakistani embassy in Qatar has reached out to Qatari authorities to seek official details. He said the embassy is also in contact with the Pakistani community in Qatar to gather accurate information.

Preliminary reports from community sources suggest at least three Pakistani nationals were injured in the blast. However, the Foreign Office said it will share verified and complete information only after receiving formal confirmation from Qatari authorities.

QatarEnergy confirmed the explosion occurred during the restart of operations at the Barzan facility. The plant had been shut down since December 2025 for maintenance and had only restarted two days before the blast.

Flames and smoke from the explosion were seen as far as 20 kilometres away from Ras Laffan. Emergency response teams were deployed immediately and brought the fire under control the same night.

Qatar’s Energy Minister assured that the explosion will have no impact on LNG export operations or local gas supply. He said global energy markets should not be concerned about any disruption to Qatar’s gas output.

Pakistan’s embassy in Doha has urged any Pakistani nationals or their families needing assistance to contact the embassy directly. Helpline numbers have been made available for those affected by the incident.

The Foreign Office in Islamabad said it is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available from Qatari officials.
