Double Decker Bus Crash Slams Into Norfolk Village Home

UK – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – A shocking double decker bus crash rocked a quiet Norfolk village on Thursday morning, sending the vehicle straight into the side of a family home. The crash happened just after 10 a.m. on West Road in Ormesby St Margaret, close to Great Yarmouth.

The impact was so strong that part of the house’s roof came crashing down onto the street below. Bricks, wood, and broken glass littered the road as neighbours rushed outside to see what had happened.

Despite the terrifying scene, no one was hurt. Norfolk Police confirmed there were no injuries reported. ITV News said around seven or eight passengers were on board the bus when it struck the building.

One local man described the moment as pure chaos. Kevin Griffin, 64, said he heard a deafening bang from his home nearby.

“I saw a big cloud of dust. It sounded like an explosion. It sounded like a bomb going off,” Griffin said.

He didn’t hesitate. Griffin ran straight toward the crash site to check if anyone needed help. He said he assisted several passengers as they climbed off the damaged bus.

The home that was hit wasn’t just any house. Its owners had spent the last six years lovingly restoring the old property. In just seconds, years of careful renovation work were undone.

Photos from the scene show the bus wedged deep into the side of the building. A large chunk of the wall had completely collapsed, exposing the inside of the home to the street.

Emergency crews arrived quickly after the crash was reported. Fire teams from Great Yarmouth, Gorleston, Carrow, and Dereham were all sent to the location. A specialist Urban Search and Rescue team also joined the response to make sure the site was safe.

Police shut down West Road while crews worked to clear debris and secure the damaged building. The closure caused delays for local traffic throughout the morning.

Officials say the investigation into the crash is still ongoing. At this stage, it’s not yet clear what caused the bus to veer off course and hit the house.

Village residents say incidents like this are extremely rare in the area. Ormesby St Margaret is known as a peaceful, close-knit community, making Thursday’s crash all the more alarming for locals.

Many neighbours have expressed relief that no one was seriously hurt, especially considering how much damage the crash caused. Some have also praised quick-thinking residents like Griffin for stepping in to help.

The family who owns the home has not yet issued a public statement. It remains unclear how long repairs to the property will take, given the scale of the destruction.
