Punjab Traffic Police Issues Over 841,000 Driving Licenses in November 2024

LAHORE: In a significant achievement, the Punjab Traffic Police issued more than 841,000 driving licenses in November 2024, marking a notable increase in license issuance across the province.

According to a performance report released by the Punjab Traffic Police, over 243,000 citizens obtained learner driving licenses, while 308,000 new driving licenses were issued. Additionally, approximately 284,000 licenses were renewed, including both learner and regular categories.

The report also revealed that over 4,500 international driving licenses were granted to citizens. With licensing centers operating 24/7 in major cities, the Punjab Traffic Police has ensured continuous access for individuals seeking to obtain or renew their driving licenses.

In a special initiative, the Punjab Traffic Police has allocated a full day each week to issue driving licenses to rickshaw drivers. This decision came after a meeting between Additional IG Traffic and the Secretary of Transport, where it was agreed to hold special driving tests for rickshaw drivers every Sunday at designated centers throughout the province.

The traffic police’s efforts to streamline the licensing process are part of a broader push to improve road safety and facilitate access to driving permits. In 2023, Punjab reached a milestone by issuing over 10 million driving licenses, with the then-Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi celebrating the achievement as a testament to the efforts of the Punjab Police and the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).
