ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Punjab health authorities have issued an urgent province-wide alert after laboratory testing confirmed multiple batches of commonly used medicines, including infusion solutions and injections, as substandard and adulterated.
The Directorate of Drugs Control Punjab confirmed that immediate action was taken after Drug Testing Laboratories identified serious quality failures in several widely circulated pharmaceutical products, raising concerns over patient safety.
Among the affected medicines are two intravenous infusion products under the GEE-Sol brand. Infusion GEE-Sol (NS) 1000 mL (Sodium Chloride 0.9% w/v), Batch No. 26A025 with expiry December 2027, and Infusion GEE-Sol RL 500 mL (Compound Sodium Lactate), Batch No. 25MM264 with expiry November 2027, were declared substandard.

In a more serious finding, Injection Neudex 1 mL (Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate 4 mg/mL), Batch No. DX062 with expiry October 2027, was declared adulterated.
Following the findings, authorities ordered an immediate recall of all affected batches from the market. Manufacturers, distributors, and marketing authorization holders have been directed to retrieve the products and submit complete distribution records. They have also been instructed to upload recall details on the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) portal.
Drug inspectors and field teams across Punjab have been put on high alert and directed to intensify inspections of pharmacies and supply chains. Officials said strict legal action will be taken under the Drugs Act 1976 and the DRAP Act 2012 against any violations found during enforcement operations.
