Punjab Announces Rs23 Billion Development Package for Katcha Areas

Officials further confirmed that NADRA registration drives have begun in the area

LAHORE (Web Desk) — The Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced major development initiatives worth Rs23 billion for the Katcha areas of Punjab, aiming to improve infrastructure, security, and livelihoods.

Chairing a high-level meeting in Lahore, the Chief Minister also launched the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” programme for the Katcha region and directed the allocation of 14,500 acres of government land to local residents.

Under the Katcha Area Development Programme, funds will be distributed across multiple sectors, including Rs7.1 billion for law and order, Rs13.9 billion for social infrastructure, and Rs1.7 billion for other development needs.

Key development plans include construction and upgradation of schools, hospitals, roads, and bridges, along with mobile health and veterinary services. Authorities will also introduce transport facilities and mobile clinics for remote communities.

The meeting was informed that modern solar-powered drone surveillance systems will be introduced for monitoring, with drones capable of flying for more than 24 hours. Safe City-style monitoring systems will also be extended to police stations and check posts.

Education-focused initiatives include provision of milk packs to over 6,500 female students, scholarships for 300 students, and laptops for another 300. The government also plans to construct and upgrade 65 schools, build 16 new schools and two girls’ colleges, and develop sports and sanitation facilities.

Officials further confirmed that NADRA registration drives have begun in the area, enabling residents to obtain computerized identity cards. A return-to-legal-weapons programme has also been approved with digital monitoring mechanisms.

Maryam Nawaz said the government aims to transform the Katcha region into a “safe, developed, and prosperous area,” adding that development is a right of every citizen of Punjab.
