ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – More than 26,000 schools across Punjab have been enrolled in the Green School Programme, with around 7.6 million students and teachers now part of the initiative aimed at promoting environmental awareness.
According to Secretary Environment Salut Saeed, efforts are underway to build a green culture within educational institutions by integrating environmental awareness into the curriculum. He said practical measures focusing on air quality, water conservation, and energy efficiency have already been introduced.
Officials noted a significant rise in eco-friendly activities within schools, alongside the launch of training programmes designed to encourage sustainable lifestyles among the younger generation. A strict monitoring system has also been implemented, covering 100 evaluation points to ensure effective execution.

As part of the initiative, performance-based schools will be awarded a five-star certification. Authorities revealed that more than 80 percent of government schools are already participating, while interest from private institutions continues to grow.
To further strengthen the programme, awareness sessions will be organised in major cities, and teachers are undergoing specialised environmental training. The initiative has also attracted participation from international organisations, highlighting its broader significance.
