Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Face High Flood Risks Due to Torrential Rains

Here’s a reworded version of the passage:

The intensifying monsoon rains have raised significant concerns about potential flooding in Punjab’s rivers and streams. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has indicated that the ongoing downpours have increased the flood risks across the province.

The PDMA spokesperson reported that while the Indus River is currently experiencing low-level flooding, a high-level flood is predicted in the Chenab River within the next 24 hours, with water levels expected to surge between 200,000 and 250,000 cusecs.

In response to this, all necessary flood management measures have been put in place, according to PDMA’s Director General, Irfan Ali Kathia.

For now, the Ravi River at Jassar and Shahdara is flowing at normal levels, as confirmed by the PDMA. However, warnings have been issued for potential flooding in other rivers and streams across Punjab.

The PDMA has also forecasted continued monsoon rains in various districts, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, Gujrat, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Sahiwal. In light of this, DG Irfan Ali Kathia has instructed all deputy commissioners to remain vigilant and prepared for possible flood scenarios.

Widespread Monsoon Rains Expected Nationwide Until August 18

The situation is being closely monitored, with emergency measures and flood management protocols in place to reduce risks and safeguard residents from the anticipated heavy rains and rising water levels.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, forecasting severe storms and heavy rainfall over the next two days. The regions of Swat, Dir, and Chitral are particularly vulnerable, with a high risk of flooding during the downpours.

The NDMA has also advised relevant departments to be prepared for the upcoming weather conditions. Areas such as Malakand, Buner, and Shangla are also expected to face significant threats from heavy rainfall and potential flooding.

Authorities have directed all concerned departments to stay on high alert and ready to respond to any emergencies. Additional warnings have been issued regarding rising water levels in rivers and streams, as well as the potential for landslides in these regions.
