PPP Nominates Amjad Hussain for GB Chief Minister
Results for GBA-9 Skardu-3, GBA-15 Diamer-1, and GBA-17 Diamer-3 are yet to be announced.
GILGIT: (Web Desk) – The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has nominated Amjad Hussain for the position of Chief Minister in Gilgit-Baltistan following its strong performance in the recently held regional elections.
According to reports, this marks the first time the PPP has selected a leader from the Gilgit region for the province’s top executive office. Amjad Hussain, who also serves as President of PPP Gilgit-Baltistan, secured victory from the GBA-1 Gilgit constituency in the elections.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission Gilgit-Baltistan has announced official results for 21 of the 24 constituencies. The PPP emerged as the largest party with nine seats, followed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with six seats. The Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) won four seats, while the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) and an independent candidate secured one seat each.

Under the allocation of reserved seats, the PPP received three of the six women’s seats, while the PML-N secured two and the IPP one. Among the three technocrat seats, one each was allocated to the PPP, PML-N, and IPP.
PPP senior leader Nayyar Hussain Bukhari stated that the party is expected to command a clear majority of between 17 and 19 seats after the inclusion of reserved and technocrat seats. He expressed confidence that the PPP will form the next government in Gilgit-Baltistan.
