PML-N Finalizes Candidates for Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Elections
Political Activity Intensifies as PML-N Announces GB Nominees
Islamabad-(Mudassar Iqbal/News Desk)- Following approval from party leader Nawaz Sharif, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has officially announced its candidates for the upcoming Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections. The party released a comprehensive list of nominees for key constituencies across the region, signaling the formal launch of its election campaign in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The announcement covers major districts including Gilgit, Skardu, Diamer, Ghizer, Astore, Ghanche, Shigar, and Hunza, where PML-N has fielded a mix of seasoned politicians, influential local figures, and experienced party workers. Political observers believe the selection reflects the party’s strategy to strengthen its position in the strategically important mountainous region ahead of the polls.
PM Shehbaz Visits Gilgit-Baltistan For Development Review
According to the official list, Shafiq-ud-Din has been nominated from GBA-1 Gilgit-1, while former Chief Minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman will contest from GBA-2 Gilgit-2. Muhammad Iqbal has been awarded the party ticket for GBA-3 Gilgit-3.
In Hunza, Shahzada Saleem will represent PML-N from GBA-6 Hunza-6. For the Skardu region, Muhammad Akbar Khan has been nominated from GBA-7 Skardu-1, Imtiaz Haider Khan from GBA-8 Skardu-2, and Ajmal Hussain from GBA-9 Skardu-3. Syed Mohsin Rizvi will contest from GBA-10 Kharmang.
The party has also finalized Muhammad Tahir Anhar Shigri for GBA-12 Shigar. In Astore, Farman Ali has been nominated from GBA-13 Astore-1, while Rana Muhammad Farooq will contest from GBA-14 Astore-2.
For the Diamer district, PML-N has selected Abdul Wajid for GBA-15 Diamer-1, Engineer Muhammad Anwar for GBA-16 Diamer-2, Muhammad Zaman for GBA-17 Diamer-3, and Malik Kifayat-ur-Rehman for GBA-18 Diamer-4.
In the Ghizer district, Zafar Muhammad has secured the ticket for GBA-19 Ghizer-1, Abdul Jehan for GBA-20 Ghizer-2, and Ghulam Muhammad for GBA-21 Ghizer-3. Meanwhile, Muhammad Ibrahim Sanae has been nominated from GBA-22 Ghanche-1.
Party leaders said the selection process was completed after extensive consultations with regional leadership and local party organizations. The leadership emphasized that candidates were chosen on the basis of political experience, public reputation, and electoral strength in their respective constituencies.
Political analysts say the inclusion of several influential and experienced personalities could make the electoral contest highly competitive, particularly in constituencies where rival political parties also maintain strong support bases. The release of party tickets is expected to accelerate political activity throughout Gilgit-Baltistan as candidates begin organizing rallies, corner meetings, and public outreach campaigns.
The announcement also indicates that PML-N intends to play an aggressive role in the upcoming elections and regain political momentum in the region. With electioneering expected to intensify in the coming weeks, observers anticipate heightened political engagement across Gilgit-Baltistan as parties seek to consolidate voter support before polling day.
