Pakistan Chess Team Wins Gold at Olympiad

 Samarkand: (Sports Reporter) – Pakistan’s chess team secured the top position in Category D, winning the gold medal at the World Chess Olympiad 2026 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

The Pakistani side delivered a strong campaign, defeating Seychelles, San Marino, the Cayman Islands and El Salvador. The team also played out draws against Egypt and Yemen, finishing the competition with 12 match points and 162 game points.

Chess Federation of Pakistan President Syed Zeeshan Ali Naqvi attended the event and remained alongside the national players, offering encouragement and support throughout their campaign.

Following the team’s success, Naqvi congratulated the players and praised their commitment, determination and competitive spirit. He said the players had made the country proud by demonstrating their chess abilities on the international stage.

He also urged the players to maintain their hard work and continue representing Pakistan with dedication in future international competitions.

The Pakistani delegation proudly displayed the Green Crescent Flag at the Olympiad, highlighting the country’s presence and growing talent in international chess.

Chess Federation of Pakistan Vice President Malik Rehan Azam and Secretary General Raja Gauhar Iqbal also participated in the event, carrying out their respective responsibilities alongside the federation delegation.
