Pentagon Reports Rising US Military Casualties in Iran War

WASHINGTON: (News Desk) – The US Department of Defense, known as the Pentagon, has released updated figures showing an increase in American military casualties linked to the Iran war.

The Pentagon updated its Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) database on Saturday, adding more than 140 wounded personnel to the reported figures. Four soldiers who were killed in recent Iranian attacks were also added back to the records.

According to US media reports, the Pentagon has introduced a new category titled “Overseas Operations” in the DCAS system to track casualties from overseas deployments since July 7.

When the figures from this category are combined with the latest data from Operation Epic Fury, the total number of US military personnel killed since the Iran conflict began on February 28 stands at 18, while the number of wounded troops has reached 624.

The latest injury figure marks a significant rise from the previous reported high of 482 wounded personnel.

Pentagon data shows that among the 18 US service members killed, 11 belonged to the Army, six were from the Air Force, and one was from the Navy.

Of the 624 wounded personnel, 461 were Army members, 86 belonged to the Navy, 19 were Marines, and 58 were from the Air Force.

The Pentagon had faced criticism from media organisations and lawmakers last week after casualty figures in the DCAS system appeared lower than expected despite ongoing Iranian attacks.

US media reports noted that while the newly created “Overseas Operations” category includes recent casualties after July 7, it does not clearly identify the specific conflict linked to each loss.

The category, however, includes the names of service members killed in recent incidents, including three American troops killed in an Iranian attack in Jordan and one soldier who died while attempting to disable an Iranian drone in northern Iraq.
