Penn Station Stabbing Leaves Six Wounded Ahead of NBA Finals and World Cup
Penn Station Stabbing Shocks New York Before Major Sporting Events
New York City – (Web Desk) – A Penn Station stabbing left six people wounded on Sunday morning, sending shockwaves through New York City just days before two of the biggest sporting events in the world.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed the news on X, saying six people were stabbed and the suspect was taken into custody. The New York Fire Department rushed all six victims to a nearby hospital. One person had serious injuries, but all are expected to make a full recovery.
City Comptroller Mark Levine said the suspect is believed to be a homeless person with emotional disturbances. Police quickly sealed off the area near tracks 5 and 6 inside the station. A reporter at the scene spotted blood, gauze, and medical gloves left on the floor.
Governor Kathy Hochul called it an act of horrific violence. She said New Yorkers deserve to feel safe everywhere they go and promised to keep working toward that goal.
The attack happened at one of the busiest travel hubs in the entire country. The timing made it even more alarming. Madison Square Garden, which sits directly above Penn Station, is set to host games three and four of the NBA Finals on Monday and Wednesday. The New York Knicks take on the San Antonio Spurs in what promises to be a thrilling series.
