Pakistan Receives Prize Money Despite Early Exit from ICC Champions Trophy

LAHORE – Pakistan’s campaign in the ICC Champions Trophy came to an early and winless end, with their third match against Bangladesh being washed out due to rain. Despite the early exit, Pakistan still earned prize money from the $2.24 million prize pool.

Under the leadership of Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan finished at the bottom of the points table after suffering defeats to India and New Zealand in their first two matches. Pakistan was beaten by India by six wickets in a crucial match on Sunday evening, which confirmed India’s qualification for the semi-finals. The loss to New Zealand in the opening game by 60 runs added to Pakistan’s elimination.

Although Pakistan failed to progress to the next round, the team still received $140,000, an amount shared by Bangladesh, who finished seventh in the group. The overall prize pool for the Champions Trophy is $6.9 million, which represents a 53% increase from the 2017 edition.

The winners of the tournament will take home the grand prize of $2.24 million, along with the prestigious trophy on 9 March. The runners-up will earn $1.12 million, while the losing semi-finalists will each receive $560,000. Teams finishing fifth or sixth will each be awarded $350,000.
