Pakistan Launches Rs4.5bn Chip Design Training Programme for 7,200 Engineers

300 students were already receiving specialised training, she said.

ISLAMABAD: (Staff Reporter) – The federal government has launched a Rs4.5 billion programme to train around 7,200 engineers in semiconductor technology and chip design, aiming to strengthen Pakistan’s technology sector and create better employment opportunities for young professionals.

Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja announced the initiative while addressing an event in Islamabad on Thursday.

She said that nearly 300 students were already receiving specialised training at different universities under the programme. The initiative is designed to equip engineers with advanced technical knowledge and practical skills required in the rapidly growing global semiconductor industry.

The minister said the programme’s main objective was to improve the employability of Pakistani youth by preparing them for emerging opportunities in chip design and other high-tech fields.

Shaza Fatima added that every training programme would undergo an independent third-party evaluation to assess its effectiveness and determine employment outcomes for participants.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to promote high-tech industries, enhance digital skills and develop a workforce capable of competing in the global technology market.
