Historic Pakistan Friendship Group Launched in Norway's Parliament

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – A Pakistan Friendship Group (PFG) has been formally established in the Norwegian Parliament for the first time, marking a significant development in parliamentary relations between Pakistan and Norway.

The newly formed cross-party group comprises Labour Party lawmakers Farrukh Qureshi, Trine Lise Sundnes, Kamzy Gunaratnam, Frode Jacobsen, Erik Hager and Kristine Løfshus Solli, along with Progress Party MP Himanshu Gulati. During a meeting held at the Norwegian Parliament on June 2, 2026, members unanimously elected Farrukh Qureshi as Chair and Trine Lise Sundnes as Deputy Chair of the Group.

Welcoming the initiative, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Norway, Saadia Altaf Qazi, described the formation of the PFG as a landmark achievement that reflects a longstanding effort by the Pakistani Embassy to strengthen institutional links and parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

The ambassador also praised Chair Farrukh Qureshi and Deputy Chair Trine Lise Sundnes for their leadership and dedication in securing cross-party support for the establishment of the friendship group.

Pakistan already maintains Pakistan-Norway Friendship Groups in both chambers of its Parliament. The Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the newly established group in Norway to enhance bilateral engagement, foster mutual understanding, and expand cooperation between the two nations.
