Pakistan, Guatemala Sign Pact to Boost Bilateral Consultations

NEW YORK: (News Desk) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Guatemala’s Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martínez Alvarado have signed an agreement to establish Bilateral Political Consultations between Pakistan and Guatemala.

The agreement, signed on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, provides an institutional framework for regular consultations between Islamabad and Guatemala City. It is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Following the signing ceremony, Ishaq Dar held a bilateral meeting with his Guatemalan counterpart. Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the existing state of Pakistan-Guatemala relations and welcomed the agreement as a mechanism for maintaining sustained diplomatic engagement.

Foreign Minister Martínez Alvarado appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in diplomatic and mediation efforts aimed at promoting regional peace and stability. The two sides also discussed the impact of ongoing global crises on energy supplies, stressing the importance of ensuring uninterrupted energy flows and maritime trade.

The ministers reaffirmed their shared view that dialogue and diplomacy remain important tools for addressing regional challenges. They also emphasized the significance of multilateralism in dealing with global issues and reiterated their support for multilateral institutions, particularly the United Nations.

The Guatemalan foreign minister also acknowledged Pakistan’s longstanding contributions to UN peacekeeping missions.

Ishaq Dar and Carlos Ramiro Martínez Alvarado agreed to remain in close contact and continue consultations on matters of mutual interest.
