Pakistan Champions End South Africa’s Perfect Run With Dominant WCL Victory

Pakistan posted 198 for 5 and successfully defended the target with control and confidence.

ISLAMBAD: Pakistan Champions produced a commanding all-round performance to beat South Africa Champions by 31 runs in Leicester, making a strong statement in the ongoing World Championship of Legends (WCL) and continuing their perfect run in the tournament.

Playing their first game since the abandonment of the India game, Pakistan showed no signs of slipping up. Powered by a composed half-century from Umar Amin and sharp spells from their veteran bowlers, Pakistan posted 198 for 5 and successfully defended the target with control and confidence.

Amin, named Player of the Match, led the way with 58 off 42 balls. His effort was well supported by Shoaib Malik, who remained unbeaten on 46 off 34 deliveries, and Asif Ali, who smashed a quickfire 23 from just 11 balls.

Chasing 199 for victory, South Africa Champions faltered early, losing three wickets inside eight overs. Hashim Amla, Henry Davids, and Sarel Erwee were dismissed cheaply, while pressure mounted as the required rate climbed.

Despite a valiant effort from Morne van Wyk — who blasted an unbeaten 44 off 20 balls — the rest of the batting lineup couldn’t mount a serious challenge. Parnell’s 21 off 9 added a late spark, but it came too late in the chase.

Despite the win, Pakistan Champions remain behind South Africa in the WCL table, as the verdict to their appeal for the shared points from the India game is awaited. The victory, however, reinforces Pakistan Champions’ strength in the Legends tournament, combining solid top-order batting with experienced bowling options. With Australia and West Indies up next, Mohammad Hafeez’s men will be confident of making another run at the final.

Their next assignment will be against the West Indies tonight. As the tournament moves towards its conclusion, Pakistan’s experienced lineup will be confident of adding their first WCL crown.
