Pakistan Calls for Maritime Security, Diplomacy at UN Security Council Debate
The ambassador concluded by urging collective global action to preserve maritime security
NEW YORK (Web Desk): Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has stressed the importance of safeguarding global maritime routes and resolving conflicts through dialogue during a high-level debate of the United Nations Security Council.
Speaking at the session titled “The Safety and Protection of Waterways in the Maritime Domain”, Ambassador Ahmad underscored that global sea routes are vital for international trade, economic stability, and environmental sustainability.
He warned that disruptions in key waterways—particularly the Strait of Hormuz—could have severe consequences for global supply chains, energy security, and food availability, disproportionately affecting developing countries.
