This deal does not stand alone. India and the US had already signed a ten-year defence framework back in October.

Still, the broader relationship between both nations has faced strain. Trade tensions have grown sharper in recent months.

Washington placed steep tariffs on goods coming from India. The move came as punishment for India’s continued oil trade with Russia.
