OGDCL Discovers Major Gas Reserves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

ISLAMABAD: Under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) natural resources exploration projects, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has made a significant discovery of gas reserves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The new reserves, located in the Bettani-2 well in the Lakki Marwat district, are capable of producing up to 2.14 million cubic feet of gas per day, marking a major milestone for Pakistan’s energy sector.

This discovery, announced on December 13, will play a key role in enhancing the country’s energy self-sufficiency and could lead to further exploration in the mining sector. The well is currently producing 2.14 million standard cubic feet of gas and 74 barrels of condensate per day, boosting the nation’s oil and gas reserves. Notably, this is the first hydrocarbon discovery in the Wali Block’s Sama Nasak Formation, signaling the area’s potential for additional reserves.

OGDCL plans to continue drilling in the region to explore further reserves, as the company holds 100% shares of the well. This discovery is a significant breakthrough for Pakistan’s energy infrastructure, further solidifying OGDCL’s role in the country’s energy landscape.

Earlier this year, Mari Petroleum Company also made progress in Pakistan’s gas sector, announcing the successful discovery of new gas reserves in Sindh. The company reported an additional 3 million metric standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas from five wells in the Ghazij Gas Field, which is now being supplied to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).

These developments reflect Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to bolster its energy resources and reduce dependency on external energy supplies.
