Islamabad: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has successfully restored gas production from the Jand-1 well in Attock, marking a key operational milestone for the country’s energy sector.
Following recompletion and targeted stimulation, the well is now producing over 21 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), a significant increase compared to its earlier output of around 7 MMSCFD. The well is currently flowing through a 32/64-inch choke at a wellhead flowing pressure of 3,585 psi.
Originally brought into production in 2019 via the Dakhni Gas Processing Plant, the well faced operational challenges due to the presence of high levels of hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), commonly referred to as sour gas. Production had been suspended after mechanical failures caused by harsh downhole conditions.
OGDC speeds up Zin gas field production efforts
OGDC undertook a detailed technical review and implemented a comprehensive revival plan using in-house expertise and equipment. The operation included the safe retrieval of downhole components and restoration of well integrity in a complex sour gas environment.
To ensure long-term reliability, the well has been recompleted with corrosion-resistant tubing specifically designed for such conditions. All work was carried out in compliance with strict health, safety, and environmental standards.
The development highlights OGDC’s focus on maximizing output from existing assets through advanced technical solutions. It also strengthens Pakistan’s domestic gas supply at a time when energy demand continues to rise.
