Negligence by Hockey Federation Casts Shadow Over Future of Pakistan Women’s Hockey
The sudden suspension has caused deep disappointment among female players, who were eagerly awaiting the event.
Islamabad (Mudassar Iqbal) — The future of women’s hockey in Pakistan has been dealt a serious blow due to alleged negligence and carelessness by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF). Reliable sources have revealed that the Women’s Wing of the PHF has suspended the scheduled National Women’s Hockey Championship, which was to be held in Quetta from July 21 to 30.
The sudden suspension has caused deep disappointment among female players, who were eagerly awaiting the event. This championship had been announced after a long gap of eight years, and teams from across the country — including Pakistan Army, WAPDA, HEC, Punjab, Balochistan, Sindh, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — were set to participate.
Players, speaking anonymously, expressed frustration and disappointment, stating that the cancellation has deeply demoralized the women’s hockey community. They have appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Rana Sanaullah Khan to take immediate action.

The players have demanded the prompt rescheduling of the National Women’s Hockey Championship, and urged the authorities to take serious steps for the revival and promotion of the national sport. They also called for accountability from those responsible in the PHF Women’s Wing for mishandling such an important event.
