Minorities Alliance Pakistan Honors Shahbaz Bhatti on 14th Martyrdom Anniversary
ISLAMABAD: On the occasion of the Foundation Day of Minorities Alliance Pakistan (MAP) and the 14th martyrdom anniversary of Shahbaz Bhatti, a candlelight vigil and prayer ceremony was held at the site of his martyrdom. The event was organized by Minorities Alliance Pakistan Islamabad to honor Bhatti’s sacrifice and his relentless fight for the rights of minorities in Pakistan.
During the ceremony, Akmal Bhatti, Chairman of MAP, addressed the gathering via phone, stating that Minorities Alliance Pakistan would continue to raise its voice against injustices, religious discrimination, and human rights violations. He emphasized that the ruling authorities had overlooked oppressed and marginalized groups, particularly minorities, in constitutional and legal amendments. Bhatti also pointed out the absence of minority representation in the judicial appointments and the Judicial Commission, urging for a more inclusive and representative legal system.
He further highlighted that Shahbaz Bhatti embodied the liberal and secular vision of Pakistan envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Bhatti worked tirelessly to present a better image of Pakistan to the world, and his sacrifice would not go in vain. The mission of Shahbaz Bhatti, he vowed, would continue to be carried forward.

Asif Jan, President of MAP Islamabad, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing that the real progress of Pakistan lies in granting equal rights to its minorities and incorporating them fully into the national fabric. He called for amendments to the constitution to eliminate discriminatory clauses and align the legal framework with the United Nations’ global charter for human rights. Jan also stressed the need for legislative action to prevent forced conversions and ensure the protection of religious minorities.
He concluded by asserting that Pakistan’s minorities would continue to play an active role in the country’s development and prosperity and remain committed to fulfilling Shahbaz Bhatti’s mission. The ceremony ended with a special prayer for the progress, safety, and security of the nation.
The event was attended by various community leaders and members of Minorities Alliance Pakistan, who vowed to continue their fight for equal rights and justice for minorities across Pakistan.
