Maryam Nawaz Distributes Rs74 Billion Interest-Free Housing Loans in Punjab

Lahore – (Asif Iqbal)-In a landmark achievement, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif fulfilled her promise within six months by launching the most successful housing initiative in the country’s history — Apni Chhat Apna Ghar (A Home, A Roof of Your Own).

Marking a major milestone in the project, over 50,000 interest-free loans have been disbursed to low-income families across Punjab. CM Maryam Nawaz personally attended a special ceremony held at Expo Centre Lahore, where thousands of loan recipients from various districts of Punjab gathered to share their stories of success and gratitude.

CM Maryam met with numerous families who have either built or are in the process of building their homes under the scheme. She warmly interacted with women, embraced children, and personally congratulated beneficiaries.

One emotional moment came when Ghafoor Masih from Rawalpindi, his eyes brimming with tears, thanked Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz for helping him realize his lifelong dream of owning a home. A rickshaw driver also expressed heartfelt prayers, saying, “We dreamt of a house, and God made you the source.”

Another recipient, Lubna Sharif, alongside Rubeena Ashiq, shared their experiences and the joy of finally having a place to call home. A woman from Multan recalled, “We never expected the loan to be approved. When the first installment came, it was beyond joy.”

A specially-abled individual, Syed Waheed, received a standing welcome from the Chief Minister, who rose from her seat to greet him.

Housing Minister Bilal Yasin briefed the attendees on the project’s progress. He reported that:

Over Rs 74 billion in interest-free loans have been disbursed for 5 to 10 marla homes.

In Phase 1 of the scheme, 99.9% loan recovery has already commenced.

More than 37,000 families have received both installments.

Over 52,000 houses are currently under construction.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also took selfies with attendees on their request, highlighting her approachable leadership style. The event was attended by provincial ministers, the chief secretary, and senior government officials.
