Mariyam Nafees Supports Separate Homes After Marriage

Actress Highlights Family Conflicts In Joint Household Systems Today

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Pakistani actress Mariyam Nafees has shared her perspective on post-marriage living arrangements, emphasizing that married couples should be given independent space to avoid misunderstandings and long-term family conflicts.

Speaking during an appearance on the morning show Good Morning Pakistan, she discussed common tensions between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law and stressed the importance of clearer boundaries within extended family systems.

Mariyam Nafees said that, in her view, Islamic teachings allow married children to live separately so they can build a comfortable and independent household. She added that she has already decided her own son will live separately after marriage to ensure his future partner does not feel burdened with caregiving responsibilities for in-laws.

She further stated that if financial constraints do not allow a separate house, couples should at least be provided with a private and comfortable living space within a shared household. According to her, lack of privacy often becomes a source of conflict in joint family systems.

The actress also highlighted that differences in expectations between generations, particularly where older women assume authority over household decisions, can contribute to disputes. She suggested that such dynamics often lie at the root of misunderstandings within families.
