Peshawar: Major Muhammad Awais, a dedicated officer of the Pakistan Army, embraced martyrdom today in a courageous engagement with terrorists during a security operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The tragic incident took place on December 24, 2024, as Major Awais was leading a search and clearance operation in Kotkai village, located approximately 1.72 kilometers southwest of Dadum WHQ.
At around 14:00 hours, a team was dispatched to investigate suspicious noises reported in the area. As the team conducted a thorough scan of the village, they encountered a group of terrorists. The ensuing engagement led to Major Awais making the ultimate sacrifice when he embraced shahadat at around 15:15 hours. His bravery and leadership in the face of danger will forever be remembered.
Major Awais, who served with the 130 L/C ex Sigs/124W unit, leaves behind a widow and a young son. His dedication to serving his country and his ultimate sacrifice highlight the risks faced by the security forces in their ongoing efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region.
This operation was part of a larger series of counter-terrorism actions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which resulted in the neutralization of 13 terrorists. The military’s media wing confirmed that the operations were successful in disrupting terrorist activities, further protecting the people and the nation.
