LHC Summons Attorney General Over Suspension of Social Media Platform X
LHC Bench Informed of PTA Report on X Suspension
Lahore, April 8, 2025 – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday summoned the Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP), Mansoor Awan, to explain the suspension of the social media platform X in the country. The case was brought before the court following a plea challenging the ban on the platform.
The disruption of X services in Pakistan was first confirmed by NetBlocks, a global organization monitoring internet accessibility, on February 17, 2024. This disruption occurred in the aftermath of widespread protests in the country, which were sparked by allegations of vote rigging in the general elections.
A full bench of the LHC, led by Chief Justice Aaliya Neelam, heard the case and was informed that the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) had submitted a report regarding the matter. In today’s hearing, officials from the PTA and other relevant authorities were present.
The court has now scheduled the AGP’s appearance for April 17, 2025, to provide an update on the status of the ban on X services in Pakistan.

This follows earlier developments, including a similar plea filed with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in March 2024, which also raised concerns about the suspension of X services. The IHC had issued notices to the PTA and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting over the matter.
