Rawalpindi Court Orders DC to Protect Private Housing Society's Residents From Harassment
Lahore High Court – (Web Desk) – The Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench has directed the Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi to ensure that private housing society’s residents are not harassed or punished for forming a welfare association.
Justice Jawad Hassan issued this order while hearing a petition filed by Adnan Saeed and other residents of University Town Rawalpindi. The petitioners had challenged show-cause notices issued by the society’s administration.
The notices were issued on June 11 against residents who formed a welfare association without prior approval from the management. The residents approached the court, saying this action violated their basic constitutional rights.
Their lawyer, A. Ammar Sehri, argued that every Pakistani citizen has the right to peaceful assembly under Article 16 of the Constitution. He said the society had no legal ground to punish residents simply for coming together as a community.
The court found merit in the arguments. It directed the management and property sellers of University Town to appear in person at the next hearing and explain why these notices were issued.
The case is ongoing. The court will hear further arguments on the next date.
