Lalak Jan Shaheed: Pakistan Honours Kargil Hero
Nation remembers Lalak Jan Shaheed on his martyrdom anniversary
ISPR – (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s armed forces paid tribute to Lalak Jan Shaheed on Monday, marking the anniversary of his death during the 1999 Kargil war. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) shared a message honouring his bravery and the sacrifice he made for the country.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff, joined Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu in remembering his courage. All three service chiefs praised his strong will and his loyalty to Pakistan.
ISPR said Lalak Jan held his ground even as enemy attacks grew stronger. He refused to leave his post, even after being badly hurt in the fighting. He chose to keep leading his men instead of stepping back to safety.
The military statement said he kept fighting with full determination until his final breath. His actions that day are still seen as a mark of true courage and duty.
ISPR called his story a lasting example for soldiers today. It said young troops still look up to his sense of honour and love for the country.
Lalak Jan was born on April 1, 1967. He joined the Pakistan Army in December 1984 and later served with the Northern Light Infantry. When the Kargil war began in 1999, he chose to defend one of the hardest posts, high on a mountain facing constant attacks.
He held back several waves of Indian soldiers and caused heavy losses to their side. On July 7, mortar fire hit his position and left him badly wounded.
Even then, he did not leave his post. He kept fighting until he was martyred, earning the nation’s highest military honour, Nishan-e-Haider.
The statement ended with a promise from Pakistan’s people and its forces to protect the country’s sovereignty with the same courage Lalak Jan showed on the battlefield.
