KP Assembly Resolution Cleric Killing Condemns Attack
KP Assembly Resolution on Cleric Killing Demands Justice and Accountability
Peshawar – (Web Desk) – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly passed a KP Assembly resolution cleric killing condemnation on Monday. All lawmakers stood united, demanding immediate arrest of those responsible for the gun attack on former JUI-F MPA Maulana Mohammad Idrees.
JUI-F lawmaker Adnan Khan tabled the resolution during a session led by Deputy Speaker Suriyya Bibi. He openly stated that targeted killings had grown alarmingly frequent, yet no one had been brought to justice so far.
Khan raised serious concerns over the Bannu police compound attack. He pointed out that armed men surrounded the post all night while no security force came to the rescue. The post was just a five-minute drive from Bannu city, not near any border area.
Treasury member Sajjad Barakwal warned that Pakhtun people and those who speak for their rights are increasingly under threat. He also raised the disappearance of PTM workers Noorullah Tareen and Hanif Pashteen after a government-organised peace jirga at the KP Assembly.
PML-N’s Sardar Shah Jahan Yousaf defended the security forces, saying they were actively targeting militant hideouts. He added that law and order is a provincial responsibility and urged the PTI government to engage with the federal government.
Housing Minister Dr Amjad Ali mourned Maulana Idrees, recalling how he always spoke for peace. He lamented that peace advocates in the province are consistently being targeted.
ANP’s Mohammad Nisar revealed that a promised judicial commission to investigate the cleric’s killing had still not been formed. He called for a grand national dialogue to bring lasting peace to the region.
The assembly also passed the KP Establishment of Special Courts Overseas Pakistanis Property Bill, 2026. Additionally, the KP Ehsas Rerhi Baan Street Vendors Livelihood Protection Bill, 2026 was tabled and referred to a house committee for further review.
