Kim Jong Un Pledges Deeper China Ties Following Xi Summit

Kim Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening North Korea-China Strategic Partnership

BEIJING: (News Desk) – North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening ties with China, describing his recent summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Pyongyang as a “historic occasion” that further deepened the long-standing partnership between the two neighbours.

In a congratulatory message sent to Xi on the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, Kim said Pyongyang remained firmly committed to expanding its friendship and cooperation with Beijing.

“It is the steadfast stand of our Party and government to steadily develop the DPRK-China friendly relations with long and historical roots and with socialism as their core,” Kim said, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

The North Korean leader described the recent summit in Pyongyang as a milestone that strengthened mutual trust and comradeship, adding that both leaders had reaffirmed their shared determination to deepen traditional bilateral relations.

Kim also expressed his willingness to work closely with Xi to further enhance friendly and cooperative ties, describing the relationship as a valuable shared asset for the people of both countries.

The message comes weeks after Xi paid a rare visit to Pyongyang, where the two leaders pledged to elevate bilateral relations while expanding cooperation in diplomacy, law enforcement and defence.

According to North Korean state media, both sides adopted a long-term blueprint aimed at transforming their traditional friendship into a stronger strategic partnership.

China continues to be North Korea’s largest trading partner, accounting for nearly 98 percent of the country’s foreign trade in 2024, according to South Korea’s Ministry of Economy and Finance, despite Pyongyang’s growing military cooperation with Russia during the war in Ukraine.
