Armed Clash in Kharmang Erupts Between Olding and Hargosol Over Grazing Land

Gilgit Baltistan – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – A deadly clash broke out in Kharmang after a long-standing land dispute between two communities turned violent. At least three people lost their lives, and twenty others were hurt in the fighting.

The clash took place in the border areas of Olding and Hargosol, two villages in District Kharmang, Gilgit Baltistan. The two sides have been fighting over grazing land for years.

According to local sources, the disagreement turned ugly and soon shots were fired between the groups. The situation grew tense within minutes, leaving several people wounded on both sides.

Out of the twenty injured, nine are said to be in critical condition. They were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.

Ten of the injured were first taken to Civil Hospital. Later, two of the more critical patients were moved to Skardu Hospital for better treatment.

People living in the area are worried that more violence could break out if the matter is not handled quickly. Many fear the situation may worsen unless authorities step in right away.

This is not the first time these two villages have clashed. Every year, during the grazing season, tension rises between Olding and Hargosol over the same piece of land.

In the past, local elders and government officials have tried to settle the matter through talks. But a permanent solution has never been reached, and old wounds keep resurfacing.

As soon as news of the clash spread, senior officials rushed to the spot. The Commissioner of Baltistan Division, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, and the Deputy Commissioner all reached Kharmang to assess the situation.

Their visit was aimed at controlling the tension and making sure no further fighting takes place. Locals are now hoping that this time, the authorities will find a lasting solution.

For years, the people of Kharmang have lived with the fear that grazing season could turn violent. This latest clash has once again brought that fear to the surface.

Many residents believe that unless the land dispute is settled once and for all, such incidents will keep repeating every year. They are calling on the government to take strong and lasting action.

The people of Olding and Hargosol have lived side by side for generations. But this unresolved dispute continues to strain relations between the two communities.
