LONDON – Zaffar Ahmad Quraishi, Chairman of Kashmir Campaign Global (UK), has called upon the global Kashmiri diaspora to take a leading role in international advocacy for the Kashmir freedom movement, emphasizing unity, strategic communication, and collaboration with global media.
Speaking at a reception organized by the United Kashmir Journalists Association (UKJA), Quraishi highlighted Pakistan’s consistent role as a direct party to the Kashmir conflict and as a steadfast supporter of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
“The Kashmiri diaspora has a vital role to play. They must unite to bring the Kashmir issue to the forefront of global political discourse,” Quraishi said, pointing to the historic lack of cohesion and strategy as major setbacks to the cause.
He underscored the power of media in shaping global narratives, recalling the events of 2019 when Indian authorities imposed a sweeping communications blackout across Kashmir. “Media is one of the most powerful tools in today’s information war. The impact was seen in 2019 when all of Kashmir was shut down, and media helped uncover the truth,” he stated.
Quraishi urged Kashmiri journalists and media professionals to strengthen ties with Western media outlets and amplify the voices of the oppressed. “Our journalists must proactively engage with the Western media to project the voices of the oppressed and challenge the false narratives being pushed by India,” he emphasized.
Reflecting on recent geopolitical developments, Quraishi claimed that India had suffered diplomatic and strategic setbacks that have created an opportunity for the Kashmir issue to re-emerge in global discourse. “India is on the back foot, and the freedom movement has once again gained global attention. This momentum must not be wasted,” he stressed.
