Israel Armenia Genocide Recognition Angers Ally Azerbaijan
Israel Armenia Genocide Move Strains Ties With Azerbaijan and Turkey
Israel vs Armenia – (Web Desk) – Israel Armenia genocide recognition has sent shockwaves across the Middle East and the Caucasus, with close ally Azerbaijan publicly pushing back against the move just one day after it was announced.
Azerbaijan called the decision deeply concerning. Its foreign ministry warned that recognising the Armenian genocide does not help peace. Instead, Baku said, it only widens old wounds and makes regional stability harder to achieve.
Israel and Azerbaijan share strong defence and security ties. But Azerbaijan’s closest partner is Turkey, and this recognition puts Baku in a very difficult position between two important friends.
Turkey has always rejected the genocide label. Ankara argues that hundreds of thousands of both Armenians and Turks died during World War One. It refuses to accept the figure of 1.5 million Armenian deaths cited by historians and Armenia itself.
Israel had avoided this topic for many years. The main reason was its once-close friendship with Turkey. But since the Gaza war began, Turkey has repeatedly accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians. Analysts see Sunday’s announcement as Israel’s direct response to that pressure.
Over two dozen countries, including the United States, France and Germany, already recognise the killings as genocide. Israel has now joined that growing list.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan and Armenia have been quietly working toward a peace agreement over the disputed Karabakh region. Experts worry this new tension between Baku, Ankara and Tel Aviv could make that fragile peace process more complicated.
Azerbaijan has urged Israel to reverse its decision. The next few weeks will show whether this diplomatic storm passes quickly or leaves lasting damage.
