Fresh Monsoon Spell to Lash Pakistan from July 1, PMD Issues Flood Warning
Authorities have cautioned that strong winds and heavy rain may damage electric poles
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of monsoon rains across much of the country from July 1, warning of heavy downpours, flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides in vulnerable areas.
According to the PMD, a westerly weather system is expected to enter northern Pakistan on June 30, while strong moisture currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal will intensify rainfall across the country.
The department said widespread rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms—with isolated heavy falls—are expected in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, northern Balochistan, and upper Sindh between July 1 and July 6, with occasional gaps.
Heavy rainfall is likely to trigger urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Nowshera from July 1 to July 4.
The PMD also warned of flash flooding in local streams and hill torrents in AJK, KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Dera Ghazi Khan from July 2 to July 5, while landslides remain a risk in mountainous regions.
Authorities have cautioned that strong winds and heavy rain may damage electric poles, billboards, and solar panels, urging the public and relevant departments to take precautionary measures.
The Met Office has advised residents, travelers, and local administrations to stay alert and monitor official weather updates throughout the monsoon spell.
