Islamabad – Islamabad United is proud to congratulate Salman Ali Agha on his appointment as Pakistan’s T20I captain and Shadab Khan as the team’s vice-captain. This is a historic moment for Islamabad United, with two of our core players now entrusted with leading the national cricket team. Their complementary leadership qualities make them an ideal pair to guide Pakistan’s T20 future.
Salman Ali Agha’s rise in T20 cricket is a true testament to his adaptability and determination. Prior to his selection by Islamabad United for the 2024 season, Agha wasn’t widely considered a T20 player. However, Islamabad United recognized his talent and the “DimaghSe” in him, trusting his ability to control the game and accelerate when necessary. Agha repaid this trust by delivering an exceptional season, striking at high rates and playing impactful innings that solidified his reputation as a top-tier T20 player.
Shadab Khan’s leadership qualities have been evident from day one. As the captain of Islamabad United, he led the team to victory in the PSL last season. His tactical awareness, ability to perform under pressure, and instinctive decision-making have made him a proven leader at both franchise and international levels. The dynamic duo of Agha and Shadab complement each other perfectly, with Agha bringing calmness and methodical planning, while Shadab adds energy and an attacking mindset, providing Pakistan with the ideal leadership balance for T20 cricket.
Ali Naqvi, Owner of Islamabad United: “Salman Ali Agha and Shadab Khan represent the very best of Islamabad United—strong, smart, and selfless cricketers who always prioritize the team. Agha’s leadership is exemplary, and his ability to stay composed under pressure makes him an ideal choice for Pakistan’s captaincy. Shadab, on the other hand, has been a proven leader at Islamabad United for years, bringing energy, tactical brilliance, and an innate ability to inspire those around him.” “Together, they form a leadership duo that perfectly complements each other. Agha’s calm and methodical approach, paired with Shadab’s aggressive and instinctive style, gives Pakistan the balance needed to thrive in modern T20 cricket. We are confident that they will lead Pakistan with the same dedication and intelligence they have always shown. On behalf of the Islamabad United family, I wish them both success in their new roles.”

He’s a sharp cricketer who understands the modern game, makes thoughtful decisions, and plays for the team. What sets him apart as a leader is his composure, clarity in communication, and ability to foster a strong team culture.” “Shadab is the perfect vice-captain to support Agha. His natural leadership abilities, deep understanding of the game, and capacity to take calculated risks make him an invaluable asset to the leadership group. He has captained in high-pressure situations for years, and his energy and tactical awareness will be key in shaping Pakistan’s T20 strategy. With Agha and Shadab at the helm, this is an exciting time for Pakistan cricket.”
