Petroleum Minister Defends Fuel Pricing Policy, Says Govt Committed to Passing Relief to Consumers

Malik said the government remains committed to passing on any possible relief to consumers

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik has defended the government’s fuel pricing policy, saying the government is neither favouring any particular sector nor placing an unnecessary burden on any other.

In a statement posted on X, Malik said the government remains committed to passing on any possible relief to consumers while fulfilling its international obligations.

He said that under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s commitment to providing public relief, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been reduced by a cumulative Rs200 per litre, while the price of petrol has been cut by a total of Rs155 per litre since the current government’s tenure.

The minister also highlighted recent trends in the international oil market, noting that petrol Platts prices fluctuated between $98.35 and $91.68 per barrel during the week, while high-speed diesel Platts prices ranged from $109.09 to $104.79 per barrel.

Malik reiterated that the government is striving to balance its international commitments with efforts to provide maximum possible relief to the public through petroleum pricing.
