ISLAMABAD: (Staff Reporter0 – Islamabad Police has introduced a new social media policy imposing strict restrictions on the online activities of officers and personnel across all ranks.
Under the policy, police personnel are prohibited from making videos or taking photographs while wearing their official uniforms.
The new rules also bar personnel from using police uniforms for personal promotion, publicity, fame or glamour. Departmental action may be taken against those who make videos in uniform at government vehicles, police offices or private locations.
Police officers and personnel have also been prohibited from giving statements to the media, speaking at public forums or writing articles without prior permission from the relevant authorities.
The policy further prohibits personnel from expressing personal, political or religious views on social media.

The sharing of departmental or classified documents, photographs and other sensitive material on social media has also been banned.
Even positive activities and achievements of the police department cannot be highlighted on social media without prior approval from the DIG Headquarters.
According to the policy, information about police activities will only be released through the Public Relations Branch of the Central Police Office.
Unit heads will be responsible for monitoring the social media activities of personnel serving under their command.
The Islamabad Police chief has directed that strict departmental action be taken against anyone found violating the new policy.
The policy has been approved by the Inspector General of Islamabad Police and will come into force with immediate effect.
